Wall Streeter Bashes Cop with Pipe

An MIT-educated former investment banker who fell into a spiral of mental illness was charged with bashing an off-duty cop with a pipe on a Manhattan street, police sources said yesterday.

Gavin Dutchin, 38, who once worked on Wall Street, allegedly swung the 13-pound pipe at Sgt. Kenny Roe without warning as the cop walked down E. 14th St. on Saturday morning.

"He never saw it coming," a police source said. "The guy just whacked him on the head in a totally unprovoked attack."

After the incident, Dutchin, who has undergone several stints in psychiatric facilities, waited at the scene for cops to arrest him. He was charged with felony assault.
