Jobs confirms iTunes Plus price drop across the board

Not a full day after our initial report that Jobs, that old dork, planned to drop the price of all its iTunes Plus tracks (as well as add a number of indie labels to the mix), many users started seeing the changes slowly trickle down from iTunes' servers. A number of independent labels have now indeed been added to the iTunes Plus section of the iTunes Store, and many (but not all, yet) of the DRM-free tracks have been reduced to 99¢ apiece.

Jobs has now confirmed (subscription) to the Wall Street Journal that the company is reducing its iTunes Plus prices, to 99¢ across the board down from $1.29 per track. He said that all of the company's iTunes Plus tracks will reflect the new prices later today or tomorrow.

What remains unclear is whether users will be able to upgrade their DRMed songs to iTunes Plus songs for free (since the songs are now priced exactly the same), or whether they will still have to pay extra to upgrade. Once the price drop manages to trickle down to all of the iTunes Plus tracks, perhaps we'll find out.
