Goldman beaten (Gasp!) You’ll never guess by whom!

The right to a fair day's pay is not a subject that generally preoccupies the well-remunerated staff of Goldman Sachs, where the average salary tops $500,000. Below stairs, however, it's a different story.

Yesterday, the Transport and General Workers Union hailed "a major breakthrough for workers' rights" after security guards working at the investment bank but employed by Knightsbridge Guarding were awarded statutory recognition. Other City institutions will doubtless take note.

"This is a real victory for our members and shop stewards at Knightsbridge Guarding," said Rhys McCarthy, a T&G regional industrial organiser.

"The company provides security for Goldman Sachs at five centres in London, as well as working with the London Stock Exchange and other major financial institutions. Recognition of the rights of Knightsbridge Guarding security staff to be represented by their trade union at Goldman Sachs will set an important headline for other companies in the sector."
